Scarab Beetle - Trichiotinus assimilis

At a glance one might think this is some kind of bee. That's what I first thought, but when I photographed it, I saw it was a beetle. I found this one in the flower garden.

Another great bug, Harvey. Is this closely related to the sacred Scarab Beetles of Ancient Egypt (a dung beetle, if I recall correctly)?

Are these fairly common?

Thanks Kathy!

They are related but this guy prefers flowers to dung. :-)
